Direct Debit Services – Direct Debit Deduction By An Unrecognized Organization

In case the customer doesn’t recognize the organization which has deducted amount from his account, then he can ask his bank or building society for a copy of the direct debit instruction. The bank should be able to provide this within 7 working days. The customer’s amount also has to be refunded even before production of the copy of the direct debit instruction as per the direct debit guarantee scheme. In case the bank is unable to provide the direct debit instruction or even after producing it the customer is unable to recognize the organization, then the bank has to cancel the direct debit instruction and has to refund the amount to the customer after claiming it from the unrecognized organization. Since direct debit service is just another mode of payment if the organization wants to resolve any issue, it can directly contact the customer. In case the customer is not provided with the refund even after contacting the bank about the unrecognized organization’s transaction, then the customer can contact the bank’s branch manager and can write a letter to them telling them about the dispute and about direct debit service guarantee. Even after writing, if the amount is not refunded then the customer can contact BACS with all the relevant details and they should be able to respond within 48 hours.
